Nina

Nina

During a time of complete uncertainty - in this case, the beginning of a global Pandemic - Emily and her family stepped up to help an animal in need. We are forever grateful for fosters like them.

"I reached out to Save a Gato in late March 2020 with an interest in fostering a cat. They immediately put me into contact with Nicole of Paws4Survival. As we all know, the world was in a state of limbo with regulations changing day to day, hour by hour. Nicole was working tirelessly to bring in as many rescues as she could state side before borders began closing. It was my understanding that Nina - our foster fail - was on one of the last planes out of Puerto Rico before the country called for grounding planes. I met Nicole, along with 5 other fosters, at Logan Airport to pick up our new housemate. Ninas crate was set right next to me as if fate placed her there knowing the impact she’d have on mine and my husband’s life.

I brought Nina home on March 24, 2020, about 10 days after our country went into lockdown. She was missing a lot of fur along her legs and belly and weighing in at only 8lbs. It was estimated that she was about 2 years old. Nina immediately made herself at home. Enjoying time in the sun, snuggling up in our laps whenever she had the chance, and sleeping in between us every night. My husband and I quickly realized we couldn’t imagine a life without her and decided to adopt her less than two weeks after bringing her home. We’ve now had Nina for four years and just celebrated her 6th birthday. We’ve since added another black cat - Harrison - and a dog - Maddie - to the family. Though Nina loves to be the center of attention and wasn’t too keen on letting go of her title as “only child”, she has since warmed up to and enjoys the company of her siblings. Nina spends her days laying in the sun, watching the birds, cuddling up in someone’s lap, and enjoying some supervised outdoor time in our fenced in backyard.

During a time when our country was in peril and I felt helpless, I’m proud to have been able to make a difference in some way!"
